Hi colony friends! What do you think of the new site look? Tell me in the comments what you like or would suggest 😊
As we wrap up 2021, I find myself reflecting on my writing hobby-turned-career so far. Growing up, I spent countless hours coming up with story ideas and letting my imagination run wild. In all of my years, though, I never expected to actually publish anything, be it on my own or with a proper publisher. Yet, here I am, a year and three months after officially releasing my very first book.

I never really wrote for profit or fame. All I ever wanted was to write something that people might enjoy, and that I could be proud of. I know I’m not an amazing author or NYT bestseller. No, I don’t put tons of money into my process for things like professional editing or marketing. I know my little glider books aren’t anything fancy, but I’m very proud of them. What makes me even more proud of them is to see the reactions they get from people.
Take, for instance, the moment when I received my very first book review from someone whom I have never met that said they and their child enjoyed the book. It was one of the most fulfilling moments of my life. This year I also found out that a couple people I know gave copies of my books to their grandkids and nieces/nephews. I felt pride not in myself, but for the stories I have created.
It’s funny. As a voracious reader and book collector, I’ve always treasured signed author copies of books and wanted to meet all of my favorite authors. Yet, when I finally took the step and sent Glider Tales out into the world, I didn’t ever think about signing copies of my own books. Being on this side, it feels so awkward that I can’t help but laugh at myself for my reactions. I’ve never been a “look at me!” kind of person, ask anyone I know. Yet, a couple of people asked me recently to sign copies they were giving as gifts. I was totally confused at first, and it wasn’t until later, when I was looking at my own books, that I realized DUH! This was part of being an actual author now! I’m perfectly content hiding in the back while my books get all the attention, but silly me needs to remember what it’s like to be a reader and want to know the person behind the story.
To go with that change in mindset, I officially scheduled my first author event. It’s nothing fancy, just a booth at a craft fair next year. Still, it’s a huge step and I’m both excited and absolutely petrified. The writer in me wants to share Glider Tales with as many people as possible so that they, too, can enjoy the adventures. The rest of me is already planning how I can hide under the table during the fair so no one finds me because people are scary 😆 Next year I think my top writing goal will be to reconcile my two sides, writer and non-writer, so that I can better navigate the conversations I have with people about my books and writing. Part of that will probably mean scheduling more craft fairs! If you’re from the Maryland area, let me know which fairs you would suggest!
On the subject of goals for 2022, I have officially set a release date for Glider Tales 4!!! This book has just not wanted to be released, goodness. But no more delays! Revisions and editing are complete, the cover is in, and the Amazon Preorders listing should be live within the next 1-3 days! I did all the work, and now I’m just waiting for their system to do its thing. The official release date for Glider Tales 4: Momentous Move is January 15, 2022! Why this date? Because that is the one-year anniversary of when I bought my house! What better or more fitting date for the book about our move? 😊 I am so excited to finally get this out for everyone, and to hear what you all think!
On a related note, I am also planning one more book for release in the first half of 2022. Glider Tales 5 should be out by June, so keep a lookout for more on that come springtime! To hint at the adventure for this one, the colony gains a very exciting (and excitable!) new member 🐶

I think that’s all for the wrap-up and news this time. Let me know below what you think of the new site look, and what your own 2022 goals will be! We can achieve our goals together!
Keep gliding!
